A Dangerous Game

Your name is Dirk Strider, and you are bored. Not just in this moment as you go about making a sandwich to fulfill your tiresome daily needs, but existentially. The vast majority of your life you have spent being bored. You were too smart for friends as a child, or so you believed and it’s not a belief you’ve ever outgrown. You tried filling your life with whatever thrills the millions of dollars your movie mogul brother left you, but even those grew old much too fast.

You guys. I don’t think some of you understand. Maybe you should read this.
Obama stepped out and supported gay marriage. Now we have to step out and support him. For every independent and conservative vote he just lost, we need to make up for it with an independent or progressive vote.
I am fucking serious as fuck right now. Please don’t think this was easy for him. You’re going to have to get out there and vote in November, or this doesn’t mean shit.
If Obama is going to bat for the LGBT community then everyone in favor of gay marriage needs to go to bat for Obama.
You may feel lukewarm about him. You may not like him. But I can tell you for a certainty, his opponents do not support you. They do not have your interests in heart. And they are going to try to stop you, from getting the rights you deserve as a fucking human being.
If you want to be horrified, consider this: they took DOWN the comments section, on the FOX news page that reported on this, because it was so rife with racism and homophobia. Fox. Took it down. Because it was too disgusting.

In a time where a man can go on the news and say that letting women vote was a mistake (don’t believe me?), this, I feel, is something we really need to pull together on.
Please. Do not underestimate your power as a voter—politicians are counting on the fact that young people has atrocious turnout for elections, especially local ones. Donate to his campaign here. Do not wait to register to vote—you can register at rock the vote. And most of all, pass it around to your friends. To your family, to everyone you fucking know. This is important. We have to make it understood that we support the person who stands with us. If we don’t, then he will have put himself on the proverbial chopping block in the media for nothing. Supporting marriage equality has historically been political poison. No more. It needs to end here, with us. We need to be the ones to make the change happen. And we can. Yes we can.

I usually try to stay away from politics on my blog, but I think this is extremely important. Many people accused me of being “blind” or jumping on a bandwagon to support Obama after he declared for same-sex marriage yesterday. And get this: I’m not dumb. I realize that Obama may just be declaring during a time when he needs the votes. But guess what? He still supports my rights as a human being, whereas the other candidates barely see me as a human, and certainly not one as deserving the same rights as other, heterosexual ones.
I’ll support Obama simply because he sees me as a human being, simply because he would not be disgusted by my attempts to, perhaps one day, marry a woman. I feel like he would invite me and my girlfriend into his home for dinner, and I can’t say that for the other candidates. If I couldn’t even get along with them… why would I vote for them?
Voting for Obama, the only sane candidate.
I’d like to be able to get married someday. Oh, and I’m also for all human beings having basic rights. So there’s that.
Obama hasn’t been a perfect president, but I am always going to vote for someone who stands up for my rights as a woman and as an lgbt individual regardless of almost any other issue. The only exceptions here are like nuclear war, genocide, and the coming zombie apocalypse.

Hey guys, I know it’s been awhile since I posted anything of note, but I’ve got some pretty awesome things in the works (if I do say so myself), so those should be showing up within the next couple of weeks. In progress works include a dirkjake short story, a dirkjake multichapter story, some dirkjake art /coughihaveaproblemcough/, and for those of you who followed me before I became obsessed with Homestuck (I’m so sorry), a vlog and a new page for Zick.
Now I need to get back to staring into space thinking about characters, I MEAN WRITING.
